In January our young leaders will be sharing the findings from their research, they are hosting an in-person event with young people and professionals on Saturday 25th January 2025 (invite attached)
Come join us at the National Coal Mining Museum for England for a unique event where graffiti art meets storytelling! Our exhibition celebrates the power of self-expression through vibrant street art. The event is youth led and will explore some of experiences of young men growing up in ex mining communities, exploring education, employment, and opportunity. Drawing on the theory of social haunting and the ghost of coal looking at the lack of regeneration, the effects of social deprivation and the cultural attitudes and whispers that the pits left behind. Amplifying the voice of young lads from Rotherham and Barnsley, shining light on some of the services (real role models) who provide the golden tickets to opportunity for young people in these areas and highlighting some of the gaps in the system which are allowing young people to be left behind.
The event aims to amplify young people’s voices encouraging and influencing social action and positive change, to help improve the lives and life chances of young people living in Yorkshire.
