More than a quarter of schools and colleges in England have joined the National Education Nature Park, with 17 per cent of participants based in Yorkshire and the Humber.

The scheme, commissioned by the Department for Education and led by the Natural History Museum, encourages schools to transform outdoor areas into nature-rich habitats.

Pupils are involved in mapping, digging, planting and planning, gaining hands-on experience and taking responsibility for the changes.
