Training is a vital resource for supporting and developing the youth work sector workforce including volunteers. It promotes retention, progression and of course the best possible experience for young people.
The YWU supports and provides training in many ways including –
- Delivering An Introduction to Working in Youth Work Settings – equal to two full days designed especially for paid and unpaid staff who are new to youth work/working with young people. Core topics covered include – Who are young people? What is youth work? Safeguarding Young People and Session planning & Risk assessments. Additional content can be agreed and the delivery methods are flexible.
- Delivering An Introduction to Working in Youth Work Settings Train the Trainer
- JNC recognised Level 2 and Level 3 Youth Work qualifications – delivery and IQA
- In partnership with the NYA, The YWU supports the distribution of the Yorkshire and Humber allocation of the National Training Bursary Scheme for level 2 and 3 training opportunities, directing monies to youth work organisations. - Level 6 BA (Hons) Degree is offered by the University of Hull, more details can be found on their website

We provide support to Members of the National Network of Assessors and IQA’s Youth Work. If you are network member you can contact the unit for access to the shared drive of resources.
Events & training notices
Here at the YWU we provide several events from our youth workers networks to our annual conference. We provide training in all aspects of youth work and beyond many are delivered specifically for individual organisations, though occasionally we do offer open courses for anyone to enrol.
