and we’re looking for enthusiastic 14-20 year-olds from across the UK to join us and help shape our work over the next two years.

What is the Youth Steering Group?
Our Youth Steering Group (YSG) is made up of young people from across the UK who support The Politics Project in making politics and democracy more accessible. Over the past year, our YSG members have shaped our Votes at 16 strategy, spoken in Parliament at our launch event, attended and facilitated sector meetings, and inspired new ways of engaging young people in democratic education.

This year the group will play a key role in our work around the upcoming Senedd elections, as well as the build-up towards Votes at 16 for all elections across the UK.

Why should young people apply?
Being part of the YSG is a brilliant chance to develop leadership and communication skills, learn how a national organisation works, and contribute to real change. It’s also a fantastic addition to any CV or UCAS application, and we aim to make it a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Who should apply?
We’re looking for young people who:

  • Are aged 14-20 years old
  • Can commit to online meetings every other month and two in-person meetings in November and June.
  • Have an interest in politics and democracy
  • Are eager to share their ideas and perspectives

This year we are particularly encouraging applications from:

  • Young people in Wales
  • Young people in Northern Ireland
  • Young people studying in colleges (FE)
  • Young people who haven’t had other leadership opportunities (e.g. youth parliaments, youth boards)

No prior experience or qualifications are needed – just enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.
