The British Red Cross are currently piloting a Humanitarian Education Programme designed to support educators in teaching important global topics such as war and conflict, first aid, migration, climate adaptation, and resilience.
This fully-funded programme includes free CPD courses, engaging resources, and ongoing support – all aimed at helping educators confidently explore these topics with young people aged 11–18.
Why it matters: In today’s world, young people are increasingly exposed to complex humanitarian issues. This programme helps educators:
- Build resilience, empathy, and critical thinking in learners
- Tackle sensitive topics in a safe and inclusive way
- Save time with ready-made teaching resources
- Align their work with national curriculum frameworks
What’s included: Educators can sign up to take part in one or more of the following free CPD courses:
- Teaching about War and Conflict
- Teaching First Aid
- Teaching about Migration
(New topics on climate and resilience launching later this year)
Each course includes live or online modules, downloadable lesson plans, and optional masterclasses to build confidence and practical skills.
Get involved: There are a few ways to take action:
✅ Sign up directly: Educators can join the pilot and access the courses at: BRCEducatorHub
✅ Book onto a masterclass: Encourage educators to attend an interactive session to get a feel for the programme and ask questions. Red Cross Educator Masterclasses
✅ Share with your networks: Know a teacher, youth worker, or school leader who might benefit? Please do pass this on – we’d love to see more organisations in your area get involved.
