The initial overall findings indicate that a significant proportion of young people are unaware they have an EHCP (Education Health Care Plan); consequently, the majority are either unaware of or do not have regular reviews to update their plans. Each LA uses a different form, criteria, and what
support they are willing to provide – there is no consistency, which makes understanding the process hard for both young people and their parents and carers. Young people feel like a problem, like an inconvenience, and their parents feel this too.
