Over the past year we’ve been listening to passengers, communities, and local organisations to understand what matters most when it comes to bus journeys.

They’ve told us they want buses that turn up on time, reach more places, and are simple to use.

Working with local councils, we’ve used this feedback to shape improvements people will see when South Yorkshire’s bus network comes back under public control from 2027.

The improvements will focus on

  • More reliable buses that arrive when you expect them to
  • Simple timetables that are easy to read and plan around
  • Better evening and weekend services
  • Making it easier to travel by bus to hospitals, workplaces, town centres, schools, colleges and the shops

What will and won’t change at first

When buses come back under public control, the network will stay broadly the same at first. We’ll make targeted improvements to some routes and timetables, but we’re not redesigning the whole network.

As we learn more about how people use the bus, we’ll use that data to shape future improvements to the bus network across South Yorkshire.

What we are trying to understand

This survey sets out some of the first improvements we’ll make when buses come under public control in South Yorkshire from September 2027. Your feedback will help us understand whether we’re focusing on the right priorities for day one, and as we continue to improve the network over time.
