From 1st September 2026, changes to safeguarding guidance will come into effect, removing the supervision exemption for some volunteers working with children.

This means that volunteers who regularly take part in regulated activities with children may need an enhanced DBS check with children’s barred list information. Organisations are encouraged to review their volunteer roles and safeguarding processes ahead of these changes to ensure everyone is supported and prepared.
