In a blog for Personnel Today, Diane Lightfoot, CEO of the Business Disability Forum (BDF), looks at the confidence gap facing disabled young people in the labour market. A BDF poll by Opinium found that 84% of young disabled people believe disability related barriers will hurt their chances of finding work, and that they were less confident than non-disabled peers across eight stages of recruitment. The blog argues employers should ask whether they are disability ready rather than whether young people are work ready, pointing to visible adjustments, simpler routes into work and early career opportunities such as apprenticeships and supported internships.
