A group of 325 care-experienced young people are calling on Children’s Minister Janet Daby to prioritise improvements to mental health support—highlighted as their top concern in a series of demands issued through A National Voice, the children in care council hosted by the charity Coram Voice.
In a survey by A National Voice, nearly two-thirds of respondents identified mental health as the “top issue to be tackled.” Suggestions include improved access to counselling and therapy, allowing care-experienced young people to “opt out rather than opt in.” One respondent also called for “more and better trauma training for staff, teachers, and foster carers.”
