A partnership of the National Youth Agency, UK Youth and the Regional Youth Work Units has been leading the youth sector response to the civil unrest that unfolded after the tragic event in Southport on the 29th July.
Helpful resources have been collated (Security in Youth Work Settings, Community Trauma Support and Guidance and Addressing Disinformation and Violence) and sessions called “Space to Connect” have taken place to give youth workers somewhere to go to discuss challenges and good practice. These sessions are continuing online on a monthly basis:
Tuesday 17th Sept, 15th Oct and 19th Nov from 5-6pm
The Government’s Lisa Nandy MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport has also written a letter in support of youth workers:
“You have an indispensable role in fostering cohesion and countering hatred, and we are committed to creating the space to listen to how we can work most effectively together, in both the short and long term, to bring communities back together and heal divisions.”
