This plan explains how the government and partners across wider society are setting out to reduce knife crime. It is informed by the best available evidence on what works to address serious violence and the views and experiences of delivery partners, experts and those with lived experience of knife crime, including members of the Coalition to Tackle Knife Crime. Key highlights of the plan include:

  • A £320m investment will expand youth services, including new “Young Futures” hubs providing employment, wellbeing and early intervention support in high-risk areas.
  • Children found carrying knives will receive mandatory intervention plans, alongside targeted support in up to 250 high-risk schools.
  • Police will increase use of data-driven hotspot policing and new technologies, including facial recognition and knife detection tools.
  • A national coordination approach will tackle online knife sales and strengthen enforcement through weapon bans and surrender schemes.
