Research by City Hall reveals a ‘postcode lottery’ in London’s youth services, with Lewisham children receiving nearly half the funding of those in neighbouring Greenwich. Analysis of the 2024/25 budgets by Green Assembly Member Zoë Garbett shows Lewisham spends £26.65 per child, compared to £48.73 in Greenwich.

While some boroughs have lower budgets, the comparison between these neighbours highlights the significant difference a few miles can make. Ms Garbett said: “Youth services shouldn’t depend on your postcode. I’ve heard from young people and families how vital these services are. Every young Londoner deserves consistent investment, no matter where they live.”

Tower Hamlets is the best-funded borough, with £11,114,781 allocated, or £166.09 per child. In contrast, Sutton is the worst funded, with just £40,000, equating to £0.76 per child. Only 15 of London’s 33 boroughs provided data
