The NYA, UK Youth and Regional Youth Work Units are shocked and saddened at the atrocious attacks which took place on the streets of Golders Green on Wednesday 29 April. Our sympathy goes out to the victims, their families and friends, as well as the wider Jewish community.
We stand together with colleagues across the country in challenging the hatred and discrimination believed to be at the root of the attack. Everyone should feel safe in multicultural Britain – whatever their race, faith or cultural heritage.
We know that young people are increasingly feeling unsafe in their communities and youth workers play an important role supporting young people to understand such events and in bridging divides within communities. Through their trusted relationships, they are also vital to safeguarding young people from exploitation and harms.
Through our Solidarity Network we provide a safe space for those working across the youth sector to hold both the emotional impact of what we’re facing as a nation and bring the strength to act together.
These online meetings provide the opportunity to share experiences, approaches and build hope for the future. There are upcoming events on the mornings of Friday 5 June and Friday 3 July. Follow the NYA and UK Youth on social media or sign up to our Network for further details of how to join.
Please do join us to discuss solutions to tackling prejudice and division in our communities, as well as find support in the solidarity of your peers.
