On the 9th of September 2026, Peter Swallow MP secured a Westminster Hall debate on government support for the UK Youth Parliament (UKYP). MPs reflected on the important contribution UKYP has made since 1999, including giving young people a platform to influence change, represent their communities and develop valuable skills and confidence. Responding on behalf of the Government, Youth Minister Vicky Foxcroft paid tribute to the young people, youth workers and partner organisations involved, and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring young people are genuinely heard and seen.

In March 2026, the Government confirmed £453,000 of funding for the National Youth Agency to deliver UKYP throughout 2026/27, allowing the current cohort of Members of Youth Parliament to complete their term. As mentioned above, DCMS has been working with young people and partners, including Members of Youth Parliament, to co-design its wider work to increase young people’s involvement in democracy and decision-making, particularly those from under-represented groups. The outcomes of this work will be shared later in the autumn.
