On Saturday 18th January 70 young people gathered for the All Things West Yorkshire Day hosted by the West Yorkshire Youth Collective – the WY ICB youth board, held at Leeds Maths School.

The day started celebrating what young people like about living in West Yorkshire – access to green spaces, the diversity  of communities and cultures and meeting new people.

The young people then explore what they would like improved.  The WY Youth Collective understand the intersectionality of issues that determine a young person’s heath and well bring – so everything was up for discussion.

From access to support for health related issues, to transport, school days / lunch times, access to out of school activities, jobs and employment.

Once the young people had explored why they felt these issues were important and how they would share their thoughts, they were joined in the afternoon by a range of Decision Makers and Influencers – MPs, Director of Children’s Services, WY Children and Young People’s Health Manager, Principles of Schools and Colleges, Transport Lead for WYCA, employers.

They day was a great success, with young people having met and heard from their peers and those responsible for their well bring.

The WY Youth Collective is now planning their next steps to support young people’s health and wellbeing across WY.

Thank you to the support from WY ICB and Leeds Maths School – Gorse Academy Trust for the use of a great venue.
