On Wednesday 4 December Young Leaders from Partnership for Young London, Youth Focus North West, Yorks & Humber Youth Work Unit and Youth Focus South West co-facilitated a virtual roundtable event with over 40 organisations from across the country.

The Young Leaders shared their learning from delivering over 30 focus groups and training events for Authoring Our Own Stories this year. They highlighted Mental Wellbeing, Belonging and Safety as three common themes affecting opportunities and outcomes for young people from marginalised communities in England. Together, the attendees reflected deeply on the learning shared, discussing its implications and collectively committing to drive meaningful change based on the insights gained.

Each of the four organisations delivering this work will continue to engage with Young Leaders to implement the recommendations from this year.

These include:

  1. Creating more, accessible, free spaces for young white working-class men in Barnsley
  2. Greater opportunities to explore race and identity for young people in Plymouth in schools and informal youth spaces
  3. Increasing safer spaces for young people from the LGBTQ+ in Salford
  4. Promoting conversations about mental health amongst elders in Asian and Black communities in London
