Members of SY CA recently took part in filming for International Youth Day with the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA). It highlighted the importance of including young people’s voice/perspectives in policy and decision-making, as this valuable input is often overlooked.
The group also held a Q&A with key regional figures: Oliver Coppard, the Mayor of South Yorkshire; Kilvinder Vigurs, the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime; and Ed Clancy OBE, the Active Travel Commissioner. They discussed a range of important issues, including transport and accessibility, local area safety, votes @ 16 and post-16 employment and education opportunities.
As a direct result of the meeting, Mayor Oliver Coppard has committed to meeting with the YCA every six months, ensuring that the voices of young people will be consistently heard and considered.
