Worker (25 hours per week)
Core hours: 4pm–8pm Tuesday–Friday (some flexibility depending on programme needs)
Salary: FTE £26,325–£28,275 (actual salary pro rata; dependent on experience)

Young People Count is a youth space at the heart of the community — energetic, warm, real, and shaped by what young people actually respond to. It’s a place where teenagers come to breathe, create, talk, laugh, and just be.

We’re recruiting a Senior / Lead Youth Worker to help steer the day-to-day running of the space and keep things safe, lively, and youth-led. This is relational, hands-on youth work — not a clipboard-and-corner role. You’ll be part of a small, supportive team and play a key role in holding the room when it gets busy.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading the day-to-day running of evening sessions and activities
  • Shared responsibility for safeguarding, DBS processes, health & safety and maintaining a safe, welcoming space
  • Supporting staff and volunteers so everyone feels confident in their role
  • Building warm, non-judgemental relationships with young people aged 11–18, including those who don’t always connect with other services
  • Creating and delivering sessions that genuinely connect (crafts, music, wellbeing, games, creative projects, group chats)
  • Keeping on top of essential admin, risk assessments, records and GDPR
  • Helping shape the programme, spotting opportunities, and keeping things flowing
  • Representing YPC at occasional meetings and maintaining positive links with schools, families and partners
  • Supporting content and comms (events, website/social updates) to keep young people engaged

What we’re looking for

  • Experience working directly with young people and strong understanding of safeguarding
  • A youth-positive communicator who listens, respects, and can keep calm and grounded
  • Someone organised, practical and able to take initiative — while working well as part of a team
  • Someone who understands why youth spaces matter and wants to help make ours the best it can be
