Help shape the next chapter of Element Society Element Society is looking for new trustees to strengthen our Board. We are an independent youth charity based in Sheffield, working with young people through youth work, social action, alternative provision, wellbeing support, education, outreach, and youth voice. Since 2013, we have supported over 10,000 young people to build confidence, develop skills, lead change, and play a stronger role in their communities.

Why now
Element is expanding its Board so we are ready for new opportunities in education, youth and community projects.

We want a Board with the range of skills and perspectives to help us make good choices, manage risk well and protect what makes Element special as we grow.

Who we are looking for

Are you skilled in one of these areas? We are looking for people who bring good judgement, constructive challenge and commitment to young people. The job titles below are examples of roles you might currently hold.

You may bring relevant experience from other routes too.
• Finance and risk: Finance Director, accountant, audit lead or risk lead
• Governance or legal: Charity CEO, solicitor, governance or compliance lead
• Youth work or social care: Youth service manager, social care lead or youth justice professional
• Income generation: Fundraising, commissioning or development lead
• People and culture: HR Director, organisational development lead or people manager
• Education: Headteacher, SENDCO, alternative provision lead or education leader

You do not need previous trustee experience. We welcome first-time trustees. What matters most is that all trustees share Element’s values and a passion for empowering young people to transform their lives and communities.

What trustees do
• Set strategic direction with the rest of the Board.
• Oversee risk, finance, safeguarding, governance, and impact.
• Support and challenge the CEO and senior team.
• Protect the charity’s mission, reputation, resources, and beneficiaries.
• Help Element make clear, responsible decisions.
Time commitment

Estimated 1.5 days per quarter, including an AGM and occasional strategy or development sessions.

• Voluntary role, with authorised expenses paid.
• Meetings are expected to be in-person (Sheffield based) with occasional option for Hybrid.
• Appointed trustees will complete eligibility checks, references, safeguarding checks, training and induction.
