“Our initial feelings were pure frustration and quite frankly, feeling completely ignored by a decision that directly threatens young disabled people’s independence and support networks. But instead of just sitting back, we spent the week collaborating, sharing our personal stories, and channelling that frustration into real action.

Rather than isolated bans that cut off disabled young people from the world, we are calling for strict accountability for social media giants to make platforms safer, alongside high-quality digital education so young people can navigate the online world confidently.

So many of us rely on social media to connect with others, both because we struggle to meet people like us and because there have been so many cuts to community venues. We don’t believe that a ban is the most effective option; instead, we need to hold social media companies accountable and have better digital education.
