We’re currently recruiting young men aged 16–25 from Barnsley to take part in the next phase of Authoring Our Own Stories – a creative, paid project focused on education, employment, and growing up in ex-mining communities.

This work forms part of a five-year youth recovery programme funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and is delivered by the Yorkshire & Humber Youth Work Unit in partnership with the University of Huddersfield.
The research is led by Kat Simpson, Senior Lecturer at the University of Huddersfield, with young people acting as co-researchers throughout the project.

Young people involved will:

  • Take part in creative workshops (including poetry, film, graffiti, and discussion)
  • Build confidence, leadership and facilitation skills
  • Meet new people and gain experience they can add to their CV
  • Shape research and insight that is shared with local decision-makers and policy leads
  • Be rewarded for their time and contribution in vouchers.
