The Rio Ferdinand Foundation (RFF) have partnered with the National Black Police Association (NBPA) in conjunction with the Blavatnik Foundation to create a platform for young people from black, UK minority and under resourced communities to influence policing reform within their communities. The 2017 review into racial disproportionality in the criminal justice system by Labour MP David Lammy, revealed that a majority of Black and UK minority communities believe the system discriminates against particular groups. This lack of trust starts with policing, but ripples throughout the system, from plea decisions to behaviour in prisons.

Through our Youth Social Action approach and established partnership with the NBPA, we hope to build connections between policing and the Black, UK minority and disadvantages communities to reimagine policing. This work incorporating youth social action has already commenced with a series of focus group meetings between communities, police, and young people nationally on how to improve community policing in their communities.  The Youth Social Action approach combined with the roll-out of our National Survey will form a series of recommendations to be adopted by the NBPA to inform new approaches to policing in minority and disadvantaged communities and create a new community policing model.

We would therefore be extremely grateful if you would please share the link to the National Survey with your various networks working with young people so that as many young people have the opportunity to share their views and influence the relationships between community and police in a safe environment.
