The Politics Project is recruiting new members for our Youth Steering Group, and we’re looking for enthusiastic 14-20 year-olds from across the UK to join us and help shape our work over the next two years.

What is the Youth Steering Group?
Our Youth Steering Group (YSG) is made up of young people from across the UK who support The Politics Project in making politics and democracy more accessible.

Over the last two years, our Youth Steering Group played a significant role in key aspects of our work including shaping our Votes at 16 strategy, speaking at Parliament at our launch event, attending and facilitating sector conferences and meetings, submitting  evidence to youth select committees, and inspiring new ways of engaging young people in democratic education.

Why should young people apply?

Being part of the YSG is a brilliant chance to develop leadership and communication skills, learn how a national organisation works, and contribute to real change. It’s also a fantastic addition to any CV or UCAS application, and we aim to make it a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Who should apply?
We’re looking for young people who:

  • Are aged 14-20 years old
  • Can commit to online meetings every other month and two in-person meetings in November and June.
  • Have an interest in politics and democracy
  • Are eager to share their ideas and perspectives

This year we are particularly encouraging applications from:

  • Young people in Scotland
  • Young people in Northern Ireland
  • Young people who haven’t had other leadership opportunities (e.g. youth parliaments, youth boards)

No prior experience or qualifications are needed, just enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.

Applications are open until 11:59 pm on Sunday 27th September 2026. Young people can apply by writing, or by sending in a short video or voice note.
