My name is Freya, I am a trainee Clinical Psychologist at University of Sheffield. As part of my doctoral research, I am conducting a study into the links between mental health, clutter, and hoarding in young people aged 18-25. This is much more common than we expect, especially in groups of young people with ADHD.
The study is for anyone aged 18-25 who agrees with one or more of the statements below:
- I find it hard/upsetting to throw stuff away.
- My room might be messier than most.
- Other people have called me messy.
- The amount of stuff I have can make it hard to find things.
- I often buy things that I don’t need.
- I feel like my stuff can get on top of me.
Taking part involves attending an online workshop and completing a survey before and after. The study has ethical approval through the University of Sheffield (see attached), supervised by Dr Helena Drury, Clinical Psychologist, and is a collaboration between University of Sheffield and Anglia Ruskin University. Current planned workshops are running 16th October and 6th November 2026.
