Youth workers are often approached to support the participation of young people who are deemed difficult to engage. They can act as mediators, helping organisations understand young people’s perspectives and needs. Roy’s research explored young people’s democratic learning and participation and found that participation workers would benefit from expanding and diversifying their practice, better connecting the various spaces where young people already participate.
