Outwood Grange school in Wakefield has changed beyond recognition.

In the 1990s, under the leadership of Geoffrey Smith, the school was widely respected for its ethos. His approach emphasised encouraging respectful behaviour through positive relationships, developing children’s self-esteem and moral character, and nurturing qualities such as respect, honesty, responsibility, kindness and perseverance. Discipline was intended to educate and support, rather than to rely primarily on punitive measures.
