Whilst everyone is focussing on the social media ban for children, the UK government included a plan to ban romantic AI chatbots and restrictions on generative AI bots for children.
Why?
The next generation of online harm cases might not even have a human involved. Meaning noone to prosecute.
It might sound far-fetched but there are already cases of this happening and those are just the ones you hear publicly.
As a child therapist and online harms consultant I’m seeing more and more cases like this on the horizon.
Which is why when I heard about Kier Starmer’s plan to use AI tutors to help UK school children, I wasn’t particularly thrilled given the UK government’s history with protecting children and particularly young girls…
I might sound like a broken record but parents are at the frontlines and have the most amounts of power and influence to prevent, identify and rectify this kind of thing – with the right education and training.
